It must have been a sobering moment for Joe Albero in a Worcester County courtroom yesterday. Forget the fact that Judge Gerald Purnell ordered Joe Albero to outline the steps he took to verify the false information he used to defame Salisbury Police Chief Larry Webster. Instead, the most noteworthy development was Judge Purnell's official declaration that the jolly fellow from Delmar, Delaware isn't a member of the press. Therefore, he receives no protection under a Maryland law that protects news reporters.
It's clear from his postings that Albero thinks he's on par with legitimate news organizations. Never mind, he's an obvious amateur freeloading off a complimentary service through google. Still, that doesn't seem to get in the way of his apparent belief that he's someone of importance. Curiously, attorney Bruce Bright has put his competency and credibility on line by declaring the following on behalf of Albero: "Our view continues to be Mr. Albero is a member of the news media, and it is a news media outlet. That continues to be our view withstanding the judge's ruling".
The trial has been set for July 30th. If Albero doesn't reach a settlement and he proceeds forth on that date, I hope to be in the court room to show my support for Chief Webster. Although I have yet to meet the Chief, I am glad he's decided to stand up against someone who tries to intimidate others through adolescent bully tactics.

Unfortunately for him, he's not getting the favorable press he openly desires. That's why he's running around threatening to sue select individuals who don't shut down their blogs.
